Ball Burnisher is a smooth, rounded dental instrument used primarily for polishing, contouring, and smoothing dental restorations (fillings) before the material fully hardens.
Primary Function: Smooths down rough edges, shapes margins, and adapts amalgam or composite resin fillings closely against the natural walls of a tooth.
Working Tip: Features a small, smooth, spherical (ball-shaped) metal head on one or both ends. Many versions are double-ended, featuring two different ball sizes.
Mechanism: Applies light pressure to burnish (rub) the surface, removing minor surface irregularities, friction-sealing restoration margins, and producing a smooth finish that resists plaque buildup.
Common Uses:
Condensing and shaping freshly placed amalgam fillings.
Creating anatomical grooves on the chewing surfaces of teeth.
Smoothing composite resin before light-curing.
